Stopped by with my wife last Sunday on the way back to Richmond. The place had decent reviews so we decided to give it a shot.
The food here really is amazing! You can watch the chef cook your food depending on where you sit. It is like eating a nice home cooked meal every time.
Couldn't tell you how the food tasted.; but the coffee was good
As a tourist I saw the reviews and decided to give this place a try. Pros: extremely fast service cons: the interior of this place is rather dumpy and dirty. I know this is a "diner" but it could be better maintained. Food was decent but if I had a choice I'd go to Cracker Barrel any day over this. Kinda meh.
We put $2 on the table for the coffee and left.
5 minutes later, nothing.... We decided to leave as we both are very busy individuals and had a full day ahead. Once we stood up the waitress became very rude. We explained our case, which only seemed to irritate her more. The waitress grabbed some half cooked looking pancake from the kitchen and shoved it in front of my wife like it was suppose to pacify us until our food came.
Fast forward to 45 minutes after our order was taken - no food, nothing to show for. By this point we had been this "diner" for roughly an 1 hr 35 min. We kindly asked the waitress what was going on and after a few routine excesses, "we're busy, the kitchen is short staffed, your food will be out in a minute, etc....) we decided to wait 5 more minutes.
Ate there on a Wednesday for lunch. Needs to be on triple d. Looked like a great breakfast menu but the lunch menu was even better. I ordered a gyro my wife got the crab cakes. Both were delicious. Have a 5 year old and they had plenty of options. Strangely she walked out of there full......hmmmm
As greasy spoons would go, this is one of the best local restaurants to eat at. Lots of good breakfast foods and a good lunch menu. I personally had the chili omelette which was fantastic! The portions are large and the price is very fair. This is a must place to stop for a good bite!
Once we were seated it took the waitress roughly 15 minutes to take our order. Keep in mind at this point we have invested 50 minutes into this diner with no return.
1 star or less for service.
We were told the wait would be 20 minutes, which ended up being closer to 35. That's fine we dealt with the wait as it was a beautiful morning.
The very definition of a diner is quick or fast, which is why we chose this place to begin with. If we wanted a leisure breakfast we would have gone to Kingsmill or somewhere similar.
